Mechanical Design Engineer
Salary: £40,000-£55,000
Location: Fully On-Site (Monday-Friday)

I'm representing a bespoke manufacturer of special purpose machinery, with a strong reputation in the paper, packaging, and laminating sectors. They design and build bespoke machinery and material-handling equipment, including roller-based systems, for customers across the industry. Due to continued growth, I am seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team.
Role Overview
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, and modification of bespoke machinery, utilising SolidWorks to create innovative solutions that meet customer requirements. This role is hands-on and varied, involving both design work and on-site installation/commissioning of the machinery you develop.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce high-quality 3D and 2D designs in SolidWorks.
- Design and modify special purpose machinery, including material-handling equipment and roller systems.
- Work with hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical components to develop robust engineering solutions.
- Adapt existing machinery to customer specifications or create new systems from concept to completion.
- Participate in on-site installation and commissioning of machines (overnight stays required; hotel, travel, and allowances provided).
- Collaborate closely with manufacturing, production, and project teams to ensure successful project delivery.
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry and safety standards.
Skills & Experience Required
- Proficient in SolidWorks.
- Background in mechanical design, ideally within special purpose machinery or material-handling equipment.
- Strong understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Experience designing machinery involving rollers, handling systems, or similar industrial equipment is advantageous.
- Ability to take a project from concept through design, build, and installation.
- Willingness to travel and stay overnight for installations and commissioning work.
Qualifications
- HNC, HND, or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
Working Hours
- Monday-Thursday: 8:00am-5:00pm
- Friday: 8:00am-1:30pm
