Platform Engineer (SC Cleared - Outside IR35)

Platform Engineer - Defence / Government
Location: Dorset - On-site 3 to 4 times per week
Clearance: Due to the nature of the requirement, you must be a sole UK national and hold active SC clearance

We are seeking a Platform Engineer to support a high-profile customer in the defence space. The ideal candidate will be technically strong, comfortable in front of stakeholders, and able to advocate best practice in platform engineering and DevOps.

This role offers the chance to work with cutting-edge on-premise environments and modern tooling, designing pipelines and automation frameworks that will evolve into a secure, scalable, and resilient platform.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and deliver CI/CD pipelines to streamline deployments

• Develop Infrastructure as Code using Terraform / Ansible

• Automate and support on-prem platforms (VMware, Proxmox)

• Deploy and manage monitoring solutions (Prometheus, Grafana, etc.)

• Manage repositories, version control, and workflow automation

• Collaborate directly with customers to embed best practice and provide technical guidance

• Contribute to initiatives around security, scalability, and performance

Skills & Experience Required:

• Strong experience with Terraform, Ansible, Packer, Vault

• Scripting expertise (PowerShell, Bash) with good Linux/Windows knowledge

• Proven track record of building CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab, or similar)

• Containers (Docker/Podman), Nexus deployments, MicroK8s desirable

• Monitoring experience (Prometheus, Grafana)

• Strong customer-facing skills - confident advising and influencing stakeholders
