Overview
We're looking for an experienced UX Designer (Contractor) to help shape and deliver a brand-new web-based platform that will transform how users engage with our services. This is an exciting opportunity to take full ownership of the user experience for a large-scale digital product, working alongside talented product managers and front-end engineers.
As the first dedicated UX hire within the team, you'll set the standard for design thinking, accessibility, and user-centred approaches-helping to define the framework that future design work will build upon. You'll be working in a collaborative hybrid setup, spending two days a week onsite near Guildford to workshop, prototype, and iterate directly with stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design and prototyping of end-to-end user journeys and responsive interfaces.
Define and evolve a consistent design system to ensure visual and functional cohesion across the platform.
Conduct user research, interviews, and usability testing to validate concepts and improve design outcomes.
Collaborate closely with developers to ensure accessible, high-quality implementation.
Document UX principles, maintain best practices, and champion user-centred design throughout the delivery process.
Core Skills & Experience
Strong background in UX/Product Design for complex web applications.
Expertise with design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Sketch, InVision, Axure, or Adobe XD.
Hands-on experience designing responsive interfaces, ideally in collaboration with React development teams.
Proven ability to translate requirements into clear, intuitive, and engaging user experiences.
Confident operating independently, setting direction and managing UX processes from discovery to delivery.
Good understanding of accessibility standards and inclusive design principles.
Desirable Experience
Experience building and maintaining design systems and using developer handoff tools (e.g. Figma Dev Mode, Storybook, Zeplin).
Working familiarity with front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, and React.
Exposure to data-heavy, analytics, or dashboard-style interfaces.
