Applications Engineer - Water & Pumps
Location: West Gloucestershire
Salary: £25-31k, depending on experience
Hours: 37 hours per week
We are looking for an experienced Applications Engineer to join an established engineering business specialising in pumping solutions.
This is a varied technical role where you will work closely with customers, suppliers, sales and internal engineering teams to develop technically and commercially suitable pumping solutions.
The Role
You will be responsible for reviewing customer enquiries, selecting suitable pumps and preparing detailed technical and commercial quotations. You will also provide technical support throughout the pre-order process and assist with projects through to manufacture and contract handover.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Reviewing customer enquiries and assessing project suitability
- Selecting pumps for complex applications
- Preparing technical and commercial quotations
- Obtaining supplier quotations and developing accurate equipment costs
- Providing technical support to customers and the sales team
- Supporting technical and commercial bid evaluations
- Assisting contracts teams with technical queries during manufacture
- Preparing technical contract handover documentation
- Attending customer meetings and occasional site visits
- Liaising with suppliers and wider engineering teams
About You
We are looking for someone with a strong engineering background and ideally experience within pumps, rotating equipment or water applications.
You will ideally have:
- ONC/OND or equivalent engineering qualification, or relevant industry experience
- Experience with pump selection and pump operation
- Experience within pumps, compressors or other rotating machinery
- Understanding of associated equipment such as electric motors, VFDs and mechanical seals
- Strong numerical and IT skills, particularly Excel and Word
- Experience working with technical quotations, tenders or sales activities
- Good understanding of ISO 9001
- Excellent communication and customer-facing skills
Experience with technical documentation, contracts or negotiation would also be advantageous.

You should be self-motivated, organised and confident working both independently and as part of a wider engineering and sales team. A full UK driving licence is required due to occasional customer and site visits.
