Roc Search are currently working with a leading power and energy business who are looking to appoint an experienced Commissioning Engineer to support the safe and successful delivery of high-voltage electrical commissioning projects across the UK.
This is a key role within the commissioning team, focused on HV protection systems, substations, testing and energisation. You will work closely with project engineers, design teams, clients, DNOs, manufacturers and contractors to ensure projects are commissioned safely and to the required technical standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and undertake electrical testing and commissioning activities safely and in accordance with project requirements.
- Carry out pre-energisation and post-energisation commissioning of HV substation equipment.
- Test and commission transformers, tap-changers, switchgear, protection relays and auxiliary systems.
- Undertake primary and secondary injection testing, functional scheme checks, interlock testing and fault-finding.
- Test protection, control, SCADA and interface systems.
- Complete customer and DNO interface testing where required.
- Undertake Modbus and IEC 61850 testing.
- Use Omicron test equipment and Test Universe software for protection and commissioning activities.
- Support relay configuration, settings implementation and relay file management.
- Produce accurate commissioning reports, test documentation, test sheets and as-built information.
- Maintain commissioning records, signal lists, cable schedules and associated project documentation.
- Liaise with manufacturers and attend FATs, SATs and site meetings where required.
- Maintain effective interfaces between clients, DNOs, manufacturers, contractors and internal project teams.
- Identify opportunities to improve commissioning processes and operational efficiency.
About You
We are looking for an experienced commissioning professional with a strong background in HV electrical systems, protection and control.
You will ideally have:
- Proven experience in HV commissioning and electrical testing.
- Strong knowledge of HV substations and protection systems.
- Experience with protection relays and control systems.
- Hands-on experience with primary and secondary injection testing.
- Experience using Omicron test equipment / Test Universe.
- Knowledge of IEC 61850, Modbus and SCADA systems.
- Experience with pre- and post-energisation activities.
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic capabilities.
- Experience working with DNOs, clients, OEMs and electrical contractors.
- A strong understanding of electrical safety and commissioning procedures.
- Excellent documentation and reporting skills.
