Electrical Design Engineer

Location: West Yorkshire
Salary: Up to £55,000 + Benefits
Job Type: Permanent

The Company

Our client is a well-established engineering manufacturer specialising in the design and manufacture of bespoke acoustic enclosures, canopies and noise control solutions for power generation and industrial applications. Their equipment supports projects across the UK and internationally within the power generation, industrial manufacturing, oil & gas, marine and energy sectors, working alongside leading OEMs, EPC contractors and end users.

Due to continued growth, they're looking to recruit an Electrical Design Engineer to join their engineering team and take ownership of the electrical design of bespoke control systems and electrical packages from concept through to manufacture and commissioning.

The Role

As an Electrical Design Engineer, you'll be responsible for producing high-quality electrical designs for bespoke industrial equipment, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with customer specifications and industry standards.

Working closely with Mechanical Design, Production and Project Engineering teams, you'll be involved throughout the full project lifecycle, supporting projects from initial design through to factory acceptance testing and customer support.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys technically varied project work rather than repetitive product design.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and single line diagrams using AutoCAD Electrical and EPLAN.
  • Design electrical control panels, LV distribution systems and associated electrical packages.
  • Create panel layouts, cable schedules, termination drawings and bills of materials.
  • Size and specify cables, protection devices, contactors, relays, terminals and other electrical components.
  • Design containment systems including cable tray, conduit and trunking layouts.
  • Carry out electrical calculations using software such as Amtech and produce lighting calculations where required.
  • Support the integration of auxiliary electrical systems including lighting, heating, battery chargers, instrumentation and ventilation controls.
  • Review customer specifications and ensure designs comply with project requirements and relevant electrical standards.
  • Work alongside Mechanical Design Engineers to coordinate equipment layouts and ensure designs are practical for manufacture.
  • Provide technical support during panel build, factory acceptance testing (FAT), commissioning and installation.
  • Liaise with customers, suppliers and internal departments to resolve technical queries and implement design improvements.
  • Maintain accurate engineering documentation, revision control and technical records throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Previous experience in an Electrical Design Engineer position.
  • Strong knowledge of LV electrical systems and industrial control panels.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD Electrical and/or EPLAN.
  • Experience producing electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and panel layouts.
  • Understanding of cable sizing, protection devices and electrical distribution.
  • Knowledge of BS7671 and relevant electrical standards.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work across multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Desirable:

  • Experience with generator packages or power generation equipment.
  • Knowledge of PLC-controlled systems and industrial automation.
  • Experience using Amtech or similar calculation software.
  • Exposure to Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and commissioning activities.
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.

What's on Offer

  • Salary up to £55,000 depending on experience.
  • Company pension scheme.
  • Ongoing technical training and professional development.
  • Opportunity to work on technically challenging, bespoke engineering projects.
