Mechanical Engineer

We are recruiting on behalf of an established engineering and manufacturing business seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join its Engineering and Product Development team.

This is a hands-on role covering the design, development, testing and manufacture of mechanical products, including safety-critical equipment for demanding environments. You will have the opportunity to take projects from concept through to production, testing and certification.

Key Responsibilities

• Design components and assemblies using SolidWorks, Autodesk or equivalent CAD.
• Produce detailed engineering drawings with GD&T, tolerances and manufacturing specifications.
• Develop prototypes, test rigs and fixtures and support verification testing.
• Support DFMEA, PFMEA, PPAP and NPI activities.
• Provide technical support to manufacturing, including root cause analysis and continuous improvement.
• Work with customers, suppliers and internal engineering teams to resolve technical and manufacturing issues.

Experience & Skills

• Proven mechanical design experience within manufacturing or safety-critical environments.
• Strong 3D CAD and technical drawing skills.
• Good knowledge of GD&T, materials, tolerances and manufacturing processes.
• Practical experience in prototyping and product development.
• Understanding of testing, verification and regulatory requirements.
• Experience with CNC machining, injection moulding, forging or assembly is advantageous.

Desirable

• HND or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience with military/MOD, fire & rescue, marine, defence or industrial safety equipment.
• Experience designing products for extreme environments, including pressure, corrosion, depth or temperature.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement.
• Experience with certification bodies or regulatory authorities.
• Experience in hydraulic, pneumatic, SCUBA/SCBA or safety-critical applications.
