Automation Engineer

Location: Newport
Salary: £40-70k depedning on experience

The Role

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Automation Engineer to join an established engineering business working on a range of industrial automation projects.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing automation solutions, working across the full project lifecycle from initial requirements and software development through to testing, commissioning and customer support.

Previous experience within the dairy industry is essential for this position.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and program industrial automation and control systems.

• Design and modify PLC, HMI and SCADA software.

• Work with Siemens, Rockwell and AVEVA platforms.

• Develop automation solutions to meet customer and project requirements.

• Carry out software testing, fault-finding and system troubleshooting.

• Support FAT and commissioning activities.

• Attend customer sites to install, test and commission systems.

• Produce technical documentation and project-related specifications.

• Work closely with electrical, project and engineering teams.

• Provide ongoing technical support where required.

The Ideal Candidate

• Previous experience as an Automation Engineer, Controls Engineer or similar.

• Dairy industry experience is essential.

• Strong PLC programming and industrial automation experience.

• Experience with Siemens and/or Rockwell.

• Experience using AVEVA or similar HMI/SCADA platforms.

• Good understanding of industrial control systems.

• Experience with commissioning and site-based fault-finding.

• Able to read and understand electrical and control drawings.

• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

• Comfortable working with customers and multidisciplinary engineering teams.

• Willingness to travel to customer sites when required.
