EC&I Engineer

Location: Birmingham - Hybrid Working
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience
Hours: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week

The Role

We are currently recruiting for an experienced EICA / Process Engineer to join an established engineering business delivering water and wastewater treatment projects across the UK.

You will be responsible for the Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation aspects of projects, working alongside multidisciplinary engineering and project teams from initial design and procurement through to testing, installation and commissioning.

This is a varied role combining office-based engineering with occasional travel to customer and project sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for EICA elements of water treatment projects.

  • Support procurement of MCCs, switchgear, cabling, instrumentation and electrical equipment.

  • Produce load schedules, instrument schedules and equipment specifications.

  • Develop Software User Requirements Specifications (URS) following process design consultation.

  • Review subcontractor drawings and specifications against project requirements.

  • Complete detailed technical evaluations of supplier quotations.

  • Attend FATs for switchboards, MCCs and PLC/HMI software.

  • Carry out inspections and testing of electrical equipment.

  • Support EICA design, installation and commissioning activities.

  • Attend customer sites for meetings, inspections and occasional installation supervision.

  • Provide technical EICA support to tendering activities.

  • Monitor EICA activities against project budgets and programmes.

  • Ensure all activities are completed safely and in accordance with quality procedures.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Degree-qualified in an engineering or technical discipline, ideally Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Previous experience in a similar role within the UK water industry is essential.

  • Strong understanding of EICA systems within water or wastewater treatment environments.

  • Working knowledge of BS7671 / 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.

  • Good understanding of electrical systems, instrumentation, control and automation.

  • Strong communication skills when working with colleagues, suppliers, subcontractors, project managers and customers.

  • Well organised with the ability to prioritise workloads and resolve technical issues.

  • Good awareness of health, safety and quality requirements.

  • Comfortable working between office and site environments.

  • Full UK driving licence would be advantageous.

Desirable Experience

  • Cable sizing software.

  • PLC programming software.

  • Profibus, Ethernet TCP/IP or other industrial communications.

  • High-voltage electrical distribution.

  • Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace.
